New camera Canon EOS 60D

Postby =WFL= Sgt Bilko » Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:45 pm

Figured it was time to swap my 6-7 years old Canon EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT) for something new.

I was to ask DJT about new models but I kind of got carried away

Was looking at the 600D (Rebel T3i) but got a rather good deal on a 60D instead.

So far I managed to charge the battery.
Tomorrow I'll insert the memory card :)

Nice.... I still have the 40D

It'll be awhile before upgrading the camera. I still am trying to save for a 70-200 L f/2.8 lens

Looking forward to seeing photos or video from it.

My latest Canon purchased was
VIXIA HF M41 Flash Memory Camcorder

1920 x 1080i HD Recording
32GB Internal Flash Drive Memory
2 x SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card Slots
2.37MP 1/3" CMOS Sensor
3.0" Touch Panel LCD
0.24" Color Viewfinder
Genuine Canon 10x HD Video Lens
Dynamic SuperRange Optical IS
Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor
Microphone and Headphone Connections

And as usual....... after I purchased it they discontinued that model..... :(

:D same happened when I bought the Rebel XT, a new model released a few weeks later.

I have a EF USM 100-300 f4.5-5.6 lens (originaly for my old EOS600 analog). Not the most light sensitive in town but OK for now.

First impression compared to old one:
I'd say mainly the 3" LCD with live view and better ISO handling (lower noise on low light pics).

Also it's a bit bigger than the old one, which means that I get a better grip and the buttons/wheels are easier to access. Generally I'd say it feels more robust than both my old XT and the newer T3i.

Then of course it's full HD video capability, which I have not started messing with yet. Have to read up a bit and do some testing. Never really done much video before.

The camera came bundled with a monopod. Makes me wonder now, why I never bothered getting one before.

I went to a show choir event to watch my nephew and niece perform. My brother was there videoing them and asked if I would take photos with his (my old) canon XT. Mercy was it small and strange to hold compared to my 40D with battery grip. Next time I attend an event with them, I'm just going to take my camera with me.

I have a Sigma 70-300 f/4 lens but really really want an L f/2.8 70-200

Live view is pretty cool. I've used it recently to get a bird house that was on the ground in the snow. Didn't feel like sitting down in the snow to get the shot. Is it still set that you have to manually focus in live view?

I've also tethered mine to a laptop for live view to focus on some model cars.

Sorta...

There's three AF modes in LiveView:
Live AF: Using image sensor single point.
Live AF w face detection: Using image sensor trying to work out and focus on faces.
Quick AF: Using normal AF sensor. But it'll interupt the LCD momentarily while it drops the mirror to focus.

And then you can of course still hook it up to a PC/Mac and do all sorts of fun stuff through the proggie GUI.
